I Run For... Marathon, Half Marathon, & 5k - 2018 Results & Photos Maine Memorial Elementary, Maine NY

September 10th, 2018 - (MAINE, NY) – Runners and walkers participated in the I Run For… Half Marathon this past weekend located at Maine Memorial Elementary in Maine, New York. The I Run For… includes a Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k. Marathon participants started at 7am, Half Marathoners at 8am, and 5kers at 8:10am. The running race festival included about 300 runners between all the races.

The race had a spectacular weather turnout. It was 48 degrees at the start, overcast, and 54 by 2pm. Beautiful weather for road racing though was a dramatic change from last week’s 87 degrees, with blazing beach sun. No doubt runners would have to be careful with their nutrition plans as runners get a false sense of hydration security in cooler weather. When you’re out running on the road, you can’t forget to hydrate even though your body temperature is cooler. The I Run For… Half Marathon (and Marathon) course had several water stations that runners hit multiple times. Not only were runners greeted with water and Powerade, but were also greeted with immense cheers, and cowbells.

The I Run For… Half Marathon has been going on for many years. “5 years Running Strong” said co-race director Steve Seepersaud. “This was started after my sister-in law was diagnosed and treated with breast cancer… Successfully and she was here today and was volunteering.”

There is something for everyone between the 5k, half-marathon, full-marathon and volunteer positions. Save the date for the 2019, I Run For… Half Marathon in Mid-September.

Hope Fight Cure Breast Cancer during the I Run For

“[The I Run For… Half Marathon] is very thankful to be able to offer this event to the Town of Maine. I think it’s something that brings a lot of pride to the town.” Steve Seepersaud, Co-Race Director, I Run For… Half Marathon.

This year, the I Run For… Half Marathon had a team spirit challenge to register and show their pride as a group. “Team Newbsanity really answered the call,” said Seepersaud. The I Run For is going to donate a portion of the proceeds to the charity of Newbsanity’s choice. This year Newbsanity has chosen the National Brain Cancer Society which, Seepersaud says, “is very meaningful to them.” Other proceeds are going to the American Red Cross Southern Tier Chapter, and the James Cancer Center of Ohio State University.

The Newbsanity team lost a dear friend close to them earlier this year to brain cancer. Various members of the 38 member team participating in the I Run For today had “Strong like Wendy” pinned to the back of their jerseys. Jarrett Newby of Newbsanity stated, “I wanted to make sure that we were raising money for Brain Cancer research.”

Newbsanity wasn’t the only team coming out today. Runners from the Triple Cities Runners club were seen racing in all three events. There were also volunteers who came out from the Binghamton Area Trail Runners. Runners came from all over. There was even a few people who come out for the race from Maryland. This is their mother’s hometown so they come visit every year.
